Gabriel received his law degree from the University of Manitoba and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1994. Before law school, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Toronto.

He is a member of the Hamilton Law Association and serves on the Board of Directors for 62 Phantom Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets.
